Pharmacist and Opioid Antagonists for the Prevention of Opioid Overdose
California law authorizes pharmacists to furnish naloxone on their own authority according to a protocol adopted by the Board of Pharmacy in California Code of Regulations, title 16, section 1746.3. The protocol requires pharmacists, before furnishing naloxone, complete at least one hour of an approved continuing education program specific to the use of naloxone in all routes of administration recognized in the protocol, or an equivalent curriculum-based training program completed in a board-recognized school of pharmacy.
Note: The California State Board of Pharmacy is not an approved ACPE provider. For this reason, the Board's courses will not be submitted to the NABP and will not appear on your CPE Activity Monitor Transcript. Pharmacists are required to retain their law & ethics CE completion certificates for four years.
